Postdoc on deep sea microbiome analysis in Rio de Janeiro

Posting on behalf of Raquel Peixoto

A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Microbiology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Applications are invited for a 3-year postdoctoral research position. The researcher will work with deep sea samples (sediments, corals, sponges and water) collected at ~700m depth. In addition, the researcher will work with samples from experiments carried out in a “deep sea simulator”, using metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and genomics for microbiome analyses. The aim is to survey the microbiomes associated with deep sea organisms and explore how environmental impacts can affect these metaorganisms. The post doc will be supervised by Prof. Raquel Peixoto (UFRJ) and Prof. Torsten Thomas (UNSW / Australia).

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. degree in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Genetics or a related field.
  • Experience in molecular biology, microbiology and metagenomics, with emphasis on bioinformatics/statistics for joint host and microbiota data analysis.

Please apply by email to Dr. Raquel Peixoto [raquelpeixoto@micro.ufrj.br] and include your CV, brief summary of previous research experience (up to 2 pages) and name and contacts for 2-3 references.

Deadline: 01/31/2019
