Postdoctoral Scholar opportunities: Indoor Bioaerosol Dynamics

We are recruiting a postdoctoral scholar for a project, funded by the Alfred P. Sloan foundation, that aims to better understand bioaerosol dynamics in neonatal healthcare settings. The broad goal of the research is to better understand the role of the indoor environment in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) as it influences the microbial colonization of the guts of premature infants. This postdoctoral appointment focuses on the role of indoor air in the NICU as a transmission vehicle for colonizing microbes.

We are seeking an adventurous scholar with experience in real-time monitoring of size-resolved airborne particles. Strong knowledge in the physical science aspects of airborne particles is a must. Skilled management and interpretation of substantial data sets is also an essential attribute. Experience with field-monitoring campaigns, characterization of indoor environmental quality, and DNA-based sampling and analysis experience would all be pluses for a candidate.

The position will be based at UC Berkeley and will be mentored by Bill Nazaroff. The initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal.

Applicants should send a cover letter describing their research experience and interests, a curriculum vita, and the names and contact information (including e-mail addresses) for three references to:
Prof. William Nazaroff

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of California
425 Davis Hall
Berkeley, CA 94720-1710 nazaroff@ce.berkeley.edu (email preferred).

Applications will be reviewed as received with an interest in early appointment. The intended start date should be no later than 1 July 2013.
